Postdoctoral position at the University of Girona, Spain

The research group Modeling, Identification and Control Engineering (MICELab) is seeking a researcher (PhD holder or equivalent) to work on diabetes research in one of the leading groups in the development of the artificial pancreas worldwide.

The MICELab group, led by Prof. Josep Vehí, is an interdisciplinary research group of the Institute of Informatics and Applications of the University of Girona involved in national and international research and transfer projects.

The team is composed of experienced researchers from the control engineering field with expertise in systems and control theory, modelling and control of biomedical systems, uncertain dynamical systems, robust and predictive control and decision support systems. The group has extensive experience in the field of diabetes and is one of the leading groups in the development of the artificial pancreas worldwide. Since January 1st, 2018 the group belongs to the prestigious centre of excellence in diabetes CIBERDEM: “Centro de Investigación Biomédica en Red de Diabetes y Enfermedades Metabólicas Asociadas”, being one of the few engineering groups of the centre.

Research will be conducted on artificial pancreas and related technologies, such as continuous glucose monitoring and automatic patient monitoring using artificial intelligence techniques.

Candidates should have experience in design and simulation of control systems and should demonstrate proficiency in modelling and simulation applications, preferably utilising Matlab/Simulink, and/or experience in machine learning techniques and the application of artificial intelligence methods and tools. The successful candidate must be enthusiast and greatly interested in research and in technology transfer. In addition to this, excellent communication skills are important for this position and a good command of the English language is required.


Enrolment will start in Fall 2020.

Position 1: 2 years

Position 2: 3 years

Position 3: 5 years, with the possibility to have a permanent position if the relevant accreditations are obtained
